South Indian Slates
Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock
of argillaceous origin formed by the composition of mud and stone sediment
that splits into thin,smooth-surfaced layers. It is chemically a
multi-mineral rock made of a composition of minerals and colloidal
substances. The mineral composition essentially consists of members of Mica
group commonly sericite & muscovite, and accessory minerals such as
oxides, calcites, minor amounts quarts and feldspar along with some contents
of ferro-magnesium minerals. The content of silica is normally poor. The
Clay group commonly consists of paragonite, chlorite & kaonilite. This
fine grained meamorphic rock formed of above composition of minerals and
other organic substances has been hardened by heat and pressure. Since the
geological process varies greatly from place to place, its hardness and
porosity varies quite a bit.
Slates characteristics vary with source. It may be black, green, yellow,
brown, red or mottled and is relatively dense. Many slates that are available
today have wide ranging physical characteristics and overall suitability.
The slate stone differs in its density, tensile strength, absorbency and
abrasion resistance.

Weathering characteristics |
- |
Due to the wide ranges of
slate, this stone has wide ranges of weathering. Cleft planes
provides permeability for water penetration resulting in
spalling and flaking. Slates that have a high kaolinite content
(a clay) display accelerated rate of deterioration in wet
environments |

Black Slate
Black slate has been used as a building
stone for years. These slates have been used in the interiors for its
sophisticated looks. The laminar nature makes it easy to shape and work,
rendering it a popular choice for roofing and walling. Suitable for both
interior as well exterior, black slate tiles are exceptionally durable and
impermeable to water. The smooth texture and excellent finish lends a unique
sheen to the black slate stone. We can offer black slate in variety finishes
and forms cut to the size required by the clients. Naturally non-slip
surface can be rubbed plain or finished with clear varnish after fixing.

Rustic Black Slate
The rustic black stone is an enticing way
to beautify the interiors and add a unique visual interest to the
surrounding. The compact metamorphic stone is a highly durable and
impervious to water. It is resistant to weathering and can withstand
changing climatic conditions. The versatility of rustic black slate stone
makes it ideal for exterior applications. Some of the common usage of rustic
black slate stone include wall cladding, flooring, paving, roofing, etc. The
naturally non slip surface can be rubbed plain or finished with clear
varnish after fixing. We can offer rustic black stone in different forms
such as tiles, blocks, slabs, etc.
